Coorg Holiday – Day 1 and 2 – Goa

9-10-11 December 2015

Hello folks! This series is about the holiday I took in December 2015 about which I have mentioned here. This was a much needed break we took for the ups and downs going on at that point in time. So we planned for a nice 10 days road trip from Mumbai to Ooty via Coorg and back. The last time I started writing a series and left it mid way, I do not intend to do it this time and hence I am going to write the full series and then publish it.

The group was actually a girl gang of all ages, it was me, Mom, Mom of a dear friend, and 3 other colleagues of Mom of plus or minus my age. Dad joined us later on the 3rd day, more about that in following posts.

My Goa Look

So we started from Mumbai on 9th December at around 8.30 PM and planned to reach Goa by 8 am on 10th December. We were delayed by 2 hours since the driver had to take rest so we reached around 10.30 am. We took the Mumbai Pune Express way and then took the Pune Bangalore Highway(NH-4) and took a right on Nipani via Ajra. The Mumbai- Pune Express way and the Pune-Bangalore Highway are safe so to say since there is running traffic. But the route from Nipani till Amboli ghat is secluded and is advised to be taken in day time.

Me with our ride

After reaching Calangute, we got ourselves a home stay which was reasonable considering that we were travelling in December which is considered as peak season in Goa. We proceeded for sightseeing after having a delicious breakfast at a nearby hotel and visited the old churches of Goa, Dona Paula and then took a sunset cruise on the river.

Dona Paula

The dinner was at one of the shacks on the extended Calangute beach where we had Indian Flavoured Chinese food and hot chocolate.

Exhaustion and excitement got better of us and we were flat on our backs in ours beds in no time. The next day saw some ugly debate with the guide we had hired but we were back to our cheerful selves where we visited the famous Shantadurga and Mangeshi Temples and had a wonderful lunch at a small time hotel which was managed by a very pretty and loving lady.

Girls having fun at the beach

The end of day was again at the beach. Since we were back at our home stay by 6 we had lot of time to ourselves. We freshened up and went to the beach and played antakshari. The antakshari was accompanied with some high quality PJ’s and some dancing on the place. We were so high on excitement without alcohol that a family sitting nearby actually gave us some dirty glares and left for a quieter place a little further away. Our wonderful ladies also tried their hand at sand art and managed to create something that looked like a fort 😛 .

The dinner was at another shack and it too was delicious, we went back to the stay happily and slept blissfully dreaming about the wonderful day ahead. All in all the stay at Goa was wonderful.
