Coorg Holiday – Day 5 and 6 – Coorg

Read about Goa & Murdeshwar here and here

13-14 December 2015

We reached Coorg at 2.00 AM on 13th early morning and were welcomed by Mr. Danny in whose home stay we were staying. He very kindly came to pick us up at Raja’s Seat which is a tourist attraction in Coorg.

View From Thala Kaveri

A little about the home stay : The home stay is owned and maintained by Mr. Danny who is a resident of Madikeri. It is just a kilometre from Raja’s Seat and in the quieter locality. It will not be wrong if I say that it is almost in the heart of the city. The family consists of 4 people and they all are very co-operative. The home stay has 3 bedrooms, one dining room and a sitting room with a small bed. The bedrooms are all well maintained and clean and feel closer to home. All bedrooms have attached bathrooms and water heaters. The sitting room has a television a nice sofa set which can seat around 8 people. The dining room has a dining table and 6 chairs with a sink and some basic utensils. Mr. Danny can think of having a water dispenser to avoid the dependency of drinking water on them of bottled water in case we run out of water.

Mandalapatti Hils

After resting till late morning we had a good breakfast at Neel Sagar hotel which is again a land mark in Coorg. We hired a guide Mr. Ramesh who promptly came to pick us up and then off we were to explore Coorg. The first spot on the list was Thala Kaveri which is the birth place of river Kaveri and we thoroughly enjoyed the drive and the place. The temple is serene and very well maintained. Me and dad also managed to go to the view point which takes around 500 steps to climb.

Mandalapatti Hills 2

The next on the list was Mandalapatti Hills where we enjoyed a four wheel drive to the top most point. The weather was foggy and like a typical Coorg weather the fog came and went. Accumulated and cleared every now and then playing peek-a-boo with the hills. Everyone was quiet happy with the adventure that the four wheel drive was.

After the day one sightseeing we took a round of the market and then were back to our home stay after dinner. Since we had a late lunch we decided that we will make full use of the dining area and shopped for basic material required for a sandwich dinner. We prepared sandwiches with available material and some veggies and enjoyed every moment of it. We all slept blissfully after a fun filled day and dinner.

Yes it me!

The next day Mrs. Danny kindly served us delicious breakfast of homemade Dosa and chutney. We were off to our sightseeing the next day which was Dubare Elephant Camp, which proved to be a bit disappointing since the Elephant ride was just 5 minutes and there was nothing much to do. We then visited the Vintage Car showroom but then decided the entry fee person was not worth the fun. There were coffee plantations around so we dint miss the chance of clicking some photographs.

The next destination was the Tibetan Monastery and the Golden Temple. I shopped extravagantly there and got goodies for my friends. Since this was my second time to Coorg the charisma had worn off for me but the rest of the gang was thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Coorg’s famous Black Pepper creeper

We were very early for dinner so we took a take away from Neel  Sagar to our homestay and enjoyed the dinner later in the dining room. We slept off the night and were off to Ooty the next day early morning.

The Down

Well I have been feeling absolutely miserable for no reason yesterday. Tears threatened to free fall every now and then and that got some close buddies worried.

I felt this miserable after a very long time and quiet frankly had forgotten how to deal with it. So my besties S & S made sure I kept talking and sail thru the rough day.

One of them actually came half way thru to pick me up and drop me at a common point. Other one kept me company till I slept and kept me talking all the time.

I am so grateful that I have such friends! I am feeling much better today and am ready for a team lunch and dinner with a set of friends in the evening.
