The Wildernest!

So after almost 6 months Prachi and me decided to go for a short holiday. We took a holiday in February this year in Goa and it turned out to me awesome! The Day 1, Day 2 and Day3 adventures are here!

The place was picked by Prachi and she took care of the bookings too. Honestly she literally and figuratively dragged me there 😛 . We were planning Coorg and here she comes up with this plan and does the booking and forces me to come! But i am glad that she did! The trip turned out to be excellent, more than we thought. The best part was we travelled in total 24 hours for a stay of less than 48 hours.

More about the place:

We went to a resort named “Wildernest Goa”to begin with the place is a natural bliss, it is setup amidst the Sahyadri range hills and the view from our room was heaven! The resort has just 18 rooms or cottages each named after a flower and the privacy of each cottage is well guarded(until ofcourse you decide to shout yourself hoarse!) there are 3 categories of cottages, forest view, valley view and waterfall view. They also have family cottages but we took a valley view cottage and it lived upto its name. There is a small sit out facing the valley with 2 chairs and we sat there for some time contemplating life! 😉

We got the room in Rs. 6700/- per night which included breakfast, lunch, evening tea and snacks and dinner. Soft drinks and alcohol are chargeable. The food is excellent, really. Its a mix of Maharashtrian and Konkani food and is near home cooked and it does not give you the heaviness which generally the outside food gives, but rather a feeling of contentment.  Its a nicely laid out buffet and ample variety to choose from. No complaints there!

The Rooms:

The cottages are made entirely of wood and the floor is of red stone typically found in the Konkan region. Since this is monsoon and it rains heavily there the percentage of moisture in air can go upto 99% and the floor will seem constantly wet. Yes, we need getting used to it. The amenities are basic to the word! A soap and towel, drinking water, full stop literally. The hotel staff does not take the requests of additional soap or any other things with enthusiasm so please carry everything you need with great care since there is no departmental store to which you can run to.

There was a queen size double bed with clean sheets and blankets. The pillow might not agree with you and are a bit uncomfortable. Initially we thought only we were not comfortable with the pillows but then few fellow resort mates too confirmed the fact.  The lighting in the room is minimal and you will feel need for extra lights if you are with kids.

Way to cottage at night!

Oh yes, one very important thing(may be for a few) there are no televisions in the rooms. The cellular network is minimal and you may experience frequent call drops.

The Treks:

The resort arranges for 2 treks in a day, we took the water fall trek and it was the most amazing trek of my life. We walked for around 1 ½ hour to reach the waterfall and saw the most amazing scene i could ever see. We missed the evening plateau trek for obvious reason that we were too tired to even walk. Since we had to walk in waist high water and also planned to enjoy in the waterfall we did not carry our phones or cameras and borrowed pictures from a fellow group who dared to get the cameras. Bless them! 😉

The Swimming Pool:

The swimming pool is like an infinity pool and the view from the swimming pool is amazing. Again it lives upto its name and we enjoyed an hour in it.

All in all we had a short but a great holiday!

A few words of caution:

  1. Although the resort is great it is scarce on amenities, please carry extra soaps, shampoos or any other toiletries as required. There may be need to bathe multiple times in a day so plan accordingly.
  2. If planning to go in this season, carry ample clothes since we tend to get wet during treks or otherwise and the clothes do not line dry.
  3. The first aid kit is also minimal so please carry specific medicines required if any.
  4. The treks are tiring and you will need ample rest after them.
  5. The place is around 70 km from either Panaji or Belgaum and in middle of nowhere, this needs to be kept in mind especially if medical care is required.
  6. If you are thinking that you will be made to feel special or something like that, please excuse the hotel, its a come stay, trek and go hotel.
